BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Our chief meteorologist, J.P. Dice, has been battling colorectal cancer for several months now.

Dice has had chemo and radiation to shrink the tumor and, this morning, he had surgery to remove what's left of the cancer. His surgery started just after seven this morning and lasted about three hours. We are happy to report that the surgeon says it went well and they were able to get all the cancer.

J.P. recorded a Facebook video for us this morning.

"We are about an hour and a half out. Haven't eaten since Saturday. Can't wait to get this over with," said J.P. in the video.
