LEEDS, AL (WBRC) -

There's controversy brewing in Leeds after the council decided to halt construction on a new city hall and possibly relocate the project to another site.

Leeds already had a plan in place for their new city hall to be built next to the police department. Construction had already begun but a unanimous vote from the city council may relocate the building to a site downtown.

The plans were developed and approved under the administration before the one currently in office. Former mayor Eric Patterson isn't happy with the news with what he sees as potential waste to taxpayers. He says thousands of dollars on extensive prep work has already been completed and he says that money will be wasted.

New mayor David Miller disagrees and says the central location downtown is "ideal" for a small town city hall. Miller says he's renegotiating with the builder to see if the city can make the change without spending too much additional money.
