Parents and community members had a glimpse into the future Tuesday evening when school officials shared their plans for the rebuilding of Alberta Elementary School.

The school was destroyed in the April 27 tornado and since then students have found a home at the Tuscaloosa Magnet School.

Tuesday evening, Supt. Paul McKendrick shared the district's proposals for the new school. He says that he wants the school to serve children from Pre-K through eigth grade and focus on the creative and performing arts.

McKendrick presented his proposal to the school board Oct. 30. The board still has to vote to approve those plans and will do so at their Nov. 27 meeting.

Sean Bird is the father of two Alberta Elementary students and is one of those who attended tonight's meeting.

"We want to see what type of opportunities our children will have in the new school," he said.

Parents also learned tonight that the district hopes to have the new school built by August 2014.
