CLANTON, AL (WBRC) -

Patients are being discharged from the Chilton Medical Center in Clanton following the announcement that the hospital's operating license has been revoked.

Monday, the Alabama Department of Public Health suspended Clanton Hospital, L.L.C.'s opearating license for the Chilton Medical Center. The hospital has been ordered to "cease all operations in an orderly manner," according to a statement from the ADPH.

The hospital confirms their license has been suspended, but says it has not been revoked. The hospital is not accepting any new patients. Patients who were already admitted to the hospital are being treated or transferred to other hospitals in Shelby County and Prattville. FOX6 News has been told that two to three patients had to be transferred.

The hospital, the only one between Alabaster and Montgomery, has been facing serious financial problems for weeks. The CEO of the medical center says that negotiations are ongoing with a potential buyer.

The ADPH placed the Chilton Medical Center on notice to revoke its license on Oct. 2. The health department said the notice to revoke the license was due to "deficiencies, including the hospital's inability to meet financial obligations, and failure to have an effective governing authority."

On Monday, Oct. 29, the health department said the hospital did not have enough money to give its employees payroll checks.

The hospital placed a sign outside its doors on Monday to notify patients of its suspended license. It says patients should "utilize Alabaster, Birmingham, Prattville and Montgomery and urgent care facilities" for any emergency servies. The hospital also says if patients need medical records or X-Rays, they should call the hospital's medical record department at 205-280-3583.

A contested case hearing to determine if the hospital's license should be permanently revoked will be held Nov. 8.

Hurricane Maria will continue to drift northward, northeast of the Bahamas while we only experience some light, easterly winds and limited rain chances with our hot, humid conditions with daytime heating and remnant boundaries still the main forcing mechanisms for development of summer-like showers.

As Hurricane Maria continues to move north across the Caribbean toward the East Coast, an area of low pressure moves out of the western U.S., leaving an area of high pressure in control of the Southeast weather bringing only a few afternoon and early evening showers and thunderstorms with more hot, muggy temperatures.
