ETOWAH COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Glencoe Elementary third grader Axel Trippe loves to ride his bike more than anything.

"On a scale from one to ten," he tells us he rates it "about nine or ten."

Axel is also fighting brain cancer.

A group of bicycling enthusiasts are making Axel and his family the benefit recipients of a first-of-its-kind biking run in Axel's hometown.

The Stinger Metric Century will kick off Saturday morning, October 13 at Glencoe High School, around 8 a.m. There will be three routes: 62 miles, 30 miles and 11 miles.

"We all go different parts of the state, other states, and do rides, large rides, and there's really nothing local, says one of the organizers, Jeff Barber. (There's still the annual Cheaha Challenge one county over, in Calhoun County, but that's still a 30 minute car ride.) "And we just wanted to organize a true event for Etowah County."

And when they take off, Axel will be there. He might even lead the way a bit if he feels up to it.

"I mean you know any time you can help somebody out, it's a real good feeling, especially a young man such as Axel," says Barber.

Axel's own feelings: "It feels really nice, and real special."

Registration is $25 in advance and $30 the day of the event.
