Here is what you saw on Good Day Alabama for September 28, 2012:
BBJ - Mike talked with Ryan Poe from the Birmingham Business Journal about local business headlines. They discussed how the University of Alabama at Birmingham plans to build a $46 million freshman dorm and a $40 million student center as it keeps pace with an enrollment boom; Al.com is leaving Pepper Place which leaves another office space open in Birmingham; and state health regulators bank on a compromise between two local hospitals that would prevent them from building nearly identical facilities across the street from each other in the wake of a ruling that gave both providers the rights to build freestanding emergency rooms in Hoover. BARGAIN MOM - Birmingham's Bargain mom joined us with great deals to get us ready for Halloween! She says now is a great time to check thrift stores. They have new Halloween costumes still in their packaging simply left over from last year. She stopped by the Goodwill Thrift Store in Homewood and found costumes for pets, babies, toddlers, kids, & adults! Most were scary but there were a number of cute costumes for those of you who aren't big on zombies, dracula and skeletons. There were lots of Disney costumes, Mario and more -- all of the costumes were from Target. (Donated from last year's clearance) and prices were $5 or less. Some of the more complicated or larger adult costumes were $10 - regular price $30 to $60. Check your Goodwill, Salvation Army and others for Halloween costumes. Retailers donate clearance to thrift stores nationwide.
Christie taught us a new trick - Pumpkin Infused Brownies using two ingredients! A cute cooking blog she found via Pinterest called Cookies & Cups <http://cookiesandcups.com/2-ingredient-pumpkin-brownies/> shared a super easy recipe for Pumpkin Brownies. Her 2 ingredient pumpkin brownies consist of basically brownie mix and pumpkin in a can. Not only is it a frugal recipe money wise it's also frugal calorie wise (except if you add the icing). Christie tried the recipe and it worked perfectly, just had to cook it a little longer than normal but other than that they were delicious.
If you need a booster seat for your car Target will have a pretty good deal on their booster seat series by Graco Colorz starting SUNDAY. The seat will be $14 (regular price $19.99) and the cover will be $1. Normally the cover is $5.99. The idea is to select the pattern your child would like. To see the product online, visit target.com/s/graco+booster+seat. Remember the price starts Sunday -- Sept. 30. For more on these and other deals, visit blog.al.com/bargain-mom/2012/09/.
