The following are comments to an editorial from FOX6 WBRC-TV General Manager Lou Kirchen, first aired on Thursday, August 16, 2012:
My beef is with Jefferson
County.The county is crying broke.But they're building a ball field, hotel and
entertainment center. That money could be used to save jobs. City workers,
county workers and now Cooper Green out of business? Where is our tax money?...
How can a person survive with no job? How can the county keep giving out money
for nothing and survive... Without Cooper Green, where will the poor get
service? Poor people are not asking for a hand out, just a helping hand... PS
Poor people pay taxes too.
I am concerned that the
proposed cancellation of inpatient services at Cooper Mercy Hospital has been
misrepresented by community organizers who want to whip poor people into a
frenzy. I wish your team would look into and present the facts. If the proposed
change takes place, does that really mean poor folks will have no where to
receive inpatient services, of will they just be provided at a different
My concern is for the poor citizens of Jefferson County and the closing of the Cooper Green Mercy Hospital. When so many funds are put in to animal parks and other needless measures, we should first consider the cost of human life...
