Pickens County wins 1A boys' basketball state championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Warren Betts had 19 points, six steals and four assists to lead Pickens County to a 70-59 win over Cedar Bluff Thursday for its second straight Class 1A boys state title at the BJCC Arena.

De'Marko Hall added 17 points for Pickens County. Bobby Bradford had 14 points and nine rebounds while Nicholas Stewart collected 14 points and 11 boards.

DeAngelo Hardy led Cedar Bluff with 18 points. Terrance Scales had 12 while Evan McBurnett and Rihied Harris had 11 apiece. Harris also grabbed nine rebounds.

Cedar Bluff trailed by as many as 13 points in the third quarter, but a 3-pointer by Hardy cut it to 53-48 with 5:10 left in the game. Pickens County scored the next five points en route to a 9-1 run to push the margin back to double digits. Betts had three free throws and an assist to start the run, capped by Hall's two layups.
