BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB softball team posted a pair of victories over Kennesaw State Tuesday at the UAB Softball Field in rainy conditions. The Blazers downed the Owls 6-1 in the opener, before shutting out KSU, 4-0, in the nightcap.
UAB improves to 7-6 overall, while Kennesaw State falls to 8-5. With the 4-0 win, head coach Marla Townsend earned her 350th career win.
"Yes, it goes down in my record books, but it's really a reflection and tribute to all the athletes who have ever played for our program," Townsend said.
Second baseman Maegan Hornsby went 4-for-6 with two runs, three doubles and one RBI on Tuesday to lead UAB offensively. Designated hitter Kristen McGrath batted .600 (3-for-5) on the day and Kayla Orr hit .571 (4-for-7) with two runs, one double and one RBI.
"We were able to get both games in and they were both quality games," Townsend said. "We had all-around solid pitching, batting and defensive today. We were able to generate offense and extra base hits."
