Aderholt endorses Santorum

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt says he'll back Rick Santorum in Alabama's Republican Primary.

Santorum's presidential campaign released a statement today announcing the support by Alabama's fourth district congressman.

In the Santorum release, Aderholt states, "In Rick Santorum we have a leader who reveres America's Founding Principles because they are his foundation, a leader who understands the importance of manufacturing to economic growth because it is his history, and a leader with proven front-line success standing for freedom, for fiscal integrity and against Washington corruption. Rick Santorum has never just talked-the-talk, but he has walked-the-walk - inside and outside the halls of Congress. Rick Santorum has never just fought for the 1%, the 95% or the 99% of Americans, Rick Santorum has fought for a better future for all Americans. I am proud to endorse Rick Santorum for President."

Rep. Aderholt will sit with members of the Santorum campaign team at tonight's ALGOP Winter Dinner in Birmingham. The candidate will not attend.

The former Pennsylvania senator appears to be in a tight race with Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich for Alabama's March 13th primary. Romney's wife, Ann, is in Birmingham today for a fundraiser and will attend tonight's GOP dinner. Jackie Gingrich Cushman will also attend the dinner on behalf of her father.

Santorum is scheduled to appear in Mobile on March 8th. State Republican officials expect more Alabama appearances by presidential candidates ahead of the March 13th primary.
