Suspect charged in Ensley lounge shooting

A suspect has been charged in the robbery that took place at Wallace Lounge in Ensley yesterday. A suspect robbed the lounge and shot three people just before noon on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Birmingham police have identified the suspect as Ivan Cawell Batain, a 25-year-old man from Birmingham. The following warrants have been obtained against Batain: ten robbery warrants totaling $600,000; second-degree assault with a $15,000 bond; and first-degree assault with a $30,000 bond.

Batain is being held in the Birmingham City Jail.

One of the victims shot yesterday sustained life-threatening injuries. There is no update on the victim's condition.

    The Mayor of Alabaster says adding traffic light cameras in the city could help with safety as well as being used as a crime fighting tool.
