Talk of finding funding to replace a stolen horse whose remains were found last week in Southwest Oklahoma have now turned to talk of creating a scholarship fund instead.

"Credit Card" was one of five horses stolen from the Mulerider Stables at Southern Arkansas University on November 2.  Four of the horses were found alive, malnourished and dehydrated, in a wooded area near Hayworth, Oklahoma on November 15th.

The remains of "Credit Card," a 15-year-old sorrel gelding, were found by the McCurtain County, Okla., Sheriff's Department, with the help of an SAU student and the school's rodeo coach on Friday morning, Nov. 25.

On Tuesday, SAU President Dr. David Rankin said they were discussing ways to provide some financial help to provide another horse for student Shaun Smith.

But at a memorial service for Credit Card held on Wednesday morning in Emmet, the Smith family said they would rather see any funds raised go toward a scholarship to help other rodeo students to attend SAU.

KSLA News 12 will update this story with details when they become available on how and when that scholarship fund might be established, and how contributions can be made.
