ATLANTA, Georgia (November 3, 2011) -- The Stillman Tiger football team found a way to rebound from two tough losses as they defeated the Clark Atlanta Panthers 16-6 on a contest televised nationally by CSS.
After surrendering six points in the first quarter, Stillman broke into the scoring column as Alejandro Perez-Huerta nailed a 23-yard field goal with 29 seconds left in the first half.
In the third period, QB Dondre Purnell found Deandre Holley for an eight-yard scoring play making the score 10-6 Stillman.
In the fourth period, Huerta made field goals of 48 and 28 yards to make the final scoring margin 16-6.
In the game, CAU outgained Stillman 242-240 while maintaining time of possession 31:01 to 28:59.
Purnell finished the game 14-of-21 for 168 yards with one touchdown passing while rushing 15 times for 27 yards. Reese Sturgis caught four passes for 34 yards while Holley tallied 33 yards rushing on nine carries.
Defensively for the Tigers, Zamir Carlis and Carlos Wilson each had five tackles. Carlis had one sack and two tackles for loss while Wilson had three pass breakups.
For Clark Atlanta, Anderson Davis finished with 14 carries for 51 rushing yards while catching two passes for 13 yards. Bryan Mann completed 15-of-30 pass attempts for 162 yards and an interception. Sir'G Albritton caught three passes for 55 yards.
Defensively for the Panthers, Brenar Williams and Ricky Moore each tallied nine tackles: Moore had 1 1/2 tackles for loss and a 1/2 sack.
CAU finishes its season with a 2-8 overall record and 1-5. Stillman moves to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in SIAC play heading into next week's homecoming contest with Concordia-Selma (November 12 at 1:30 pm).
