Birmingham man charged in Alabaster murder

ALABASTER, AL (WBRC) -

Alabaster police have charged a suspect in the murder of Johnathan Williams, 34, who was found shot to death last week near the Waffle House in Alabaster.

U.S. Marshals and Alabaster police officers arrested Daveon L. Cathey, 22, of Birmingham without incident in the 1300 block of Highway 25 of Calera. Cathey has been charged with the murder of Williams. Police say the shooting happened during an apparent robbery around 10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6 on 11th Avenue Southeast in Alabaster.

Cathey is being held in the Shelby County Jail on a bond of $1 million.

"Detectives have worked tireless investigating this senseless homicide," Alabaster Deputy Chief Curtis Rigney said in a release. "The case is still under investigation and anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Alabaster Police Department."
