BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Birmingham police officers and firefighters joined together with the mayor and city council members in a 9/11 commemoration ceremony held in Linn Park on Sunday.
The memorial event paid tribute to the 343 firefighters who paid the ultimate sacrifice of their lives ten years ago.
"On that day we lost 343 firefighters, and we must never forget the honor and courage and sacrifice on that day. We will never forget, those of us, especially firefighters because we know those people lost their lives trying to do what we do, and that is to protect life and property," Birmingham Fire Chief Ivor Brooks said during the ceremony.
The remembrance ceremony included musical tributes featuring bagpipes and the national anthem performed by a Birmingham City Firefighter.
