BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Vivian Bolen, wife of legendary Birmingham television news anchor Bill Bolen, has passed away after a short illness.

Mrs. Bolen died Thursday night. She was 79.

Vivian was the wife of Bill Bolen, who retired from WBRC-TV in January 2010 after serving more than 40 years as an anchor and reporter. Known as "Mr. B" to many of the FOX6 employees, he often talked about "Mama" to viewers.

"He loved talking about 'Mama' to us and on TV," said Janice Rogers, anchor of the popular WBRC morning show, Good Day Alabama. "She meant the world to him."

They were married for 57 years.

Mrs. Bolen will be buried Tuesday in a private graveside service. However, a memorial service will be held afterwards at Brookwood Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from noon until 2:30, then the service will be held at 2:30.

Mr. Bolen requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alabama Baptist Children's Homes and Family Ministries or the Jimmie Hale Mission.
