Explosive device detonated at Brent's Wal-Mart

BRENT, AL (WBRC) - The ATF and Tuscaloosa County Bomb Squad detonated an explosive device in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart store in Brent.

Brent Police Chief Terry Nichols says a citizen saw a suspicious package around 7pm Wednesday and notified police.

Police secured the area around the device and notified the ATF and Tuscaloosa County Bomb Squad.  Those 2 agencies confirmed it was a homemade explosive.

Wal-Mart was evacuated while law enforcement investigated the device.It was detonated around 9:30pm. No one was injured.

In a live interview on FOX6 News at 10pm, Chief Nichols says he believes it to be a hoax and the investigation has been turned over to the ATF.
