BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Former Jefferson County Commissioner Chris McNair must report to federal prison 5 days after the Bureau of Prisons assigns him a bed.
Tuesday, a federal judge ordered the U.S. Marshals Service to turn over the 85-year-old McNair's medical records to the Bureau of Prisons so they can find a facility with the medical treatment McNair needs.
McNair was convicted in 2007 on bribery and conspiracy charges related to his role in the county's sewer projects.
He's been out on bond ever since and was asking the judge to change his 5-year sentence to probation because of his declining health including symptoms related to a stroke he suffered.
McNair's only appeal now is his petition for clemency to President Obama. McNair must report to the facility he's assigned to or the Marshal's office within 5 days of his assignment.
