Fair Park Arena scores first paying customer

The Alabama Association of High School Athletics has agreed to hold track meets at the redeveloped Fair Park Arena, making the organization the first paying customer for the $46 million facility.

The AAHSA will spend $5 million over the next five years to host its track meets in the 116 acre facility, which will include an indoor track and swimming pool.

Universities including Alabama and Auburn, the SEC Conference, and high school sports ranging from volleyball and soccer to aquatics are considering using the Fair Park Arena as well.

The arena is located in the Five Points West neighborhood and is scheduled to open this summer. The city hopes to bring in restaurants, a hotel and other commercial development to the area nearby.
