Former officer found guilty of reckless manslaughter

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. (WBRC) - A former Birmingham Police officer was found guilty Thursday of reckless manslaughter. He was accused of causing a fatal car wreck in November 2009.

James Kendrick, 36, of Birmingham was arrested in connection with the death of Derric Rush, 42, of Hoover. Investigators in the case said Rush died shortly after a crash on Interstate 59 near the Arkadelphia exit shortly after 11 p.m. on November 18.

Kendrick was accused of driving drunk during the accident. He was an officer on the Birmingham Police force for 12 years assigned to the north precinct.

He will be sentenced on June 17.
