The iconic Magic City sign that once introduced visitors to Birmingham at the train terminal may be long gone, but a new contest is asking Birmingham city students to help design another one.
Mayor William Bell came up with the idea for the competition which has already resulted in dozens of paintings done by Birmingham students that are now displayed in City Hall.
The requirements for the competition are simple: the sign must say "Birmingham the Magic City," it must represent the City and show what makes the Magic City magic, and it can be any size or color.
The paintings will be auctioned off and the proceeds from those sales will go toward various art programs in Birmingham.
The winner of the competition will be chosen in May and will receive a scholarship to UAB's ArtPlay.
