Trussville softball coach under investigation

TRUSSVILLE, AL (WBRC) -

Hewitt-Trussville High School softball coach John Gibson has been relieved of his duties as school officials conduct an investigation into a complaint filed against him.

FOX6 Sports learned Monday of the complaint against Gibson. Neither school officials nor the superintendent would confirm the reason, but FOX6 Sports was told there was an issue raised with Gibson's treatment of one of his players in front of other team members.

Kelly Bowles, spokesperson for Trussville City Schools, said a complaint was filed and an investigation is underway.

"We're still in the process of an investigation," Bowles said to FOX6. "All of the meetings are taking place this week. I do not have a time frame for that."

FOX6 Sports reporter Mike Dubberly made several attempts Monday to reach Gibson. He returned one call, but then hung up.

Practice was closed Monday.

Trussville City Schools Superintendent Suzanne Freeman declined a request from FOX6 Sports for an interview. Bowles told FOX6 Sports the superintendent does not do interviews.
