Legislators say you can't sue for being obese

Some Alabama lawmakers want to stop anyone from suing fast food restaurants because they got fat.

A public hearing takes place Wednesday for a bill that would protect makers of products whose long-term consumption can result in obesity. The bill is co-sponsored by republican Senator Gerald Allen of Cottondale who said a number of other states have already passed similar legislation.

"We want to make sure the mom and pops restaurants, the franchises, everyone that serves the public, doesn't have to worry about this idea of being sued by someone," Allen told Fox 6 News.

Allen says that obesity comes down to personal responsibility.
