Blount County teen dies in AL-160 wreck

BLOUNT COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - An early morning wreck on Highway 160 in Blount County claimed the life of a 19-year-old male. Joshua Beasley, from Cleveland, Ala., died in a single-vehicle accident that occurred around 5 a.m. Friday, March 25 about 12 miles from Cleveland,  reports the Alabama Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol division.

Highway 160 is notorious for being a dangerous stretch of road and the location of numerous other fatal wrecks, including one that killed three Hayden High School cheerleaders in November 2007. The highway connects I-65 east to the Hayden and Warrior communities.

A group called Highway 160 Promise has met with ALDOT officials in the past, asking them to make the road safer for vehicles by adding guardrails and traffic lights. They are also asking motorists to slow down when driving that stretch of road. You can more information about the group on the Facebook page Highway 160 Promise.
