FAIRFIELD, AL (WBRC) - A victory and a setback arrive at the same time for the Alabama Attorney General's office .
On Tuesday, the AG's office requested an emergency stay of Jefferson County Circuit Judge Eugene Verin's order which would allow bingo casinos to reopen in the Bessemer Cutoff. In motion, it requested time for Sheriff Mike Hale to ask for an appeal of the order to the Alabama Supreme Court.
On Thursday, Verin declined to issue the stay but did lift Sheriff Hale from being covered by the order, preventing any legal action against bingo halls reopening.
Fairfield Attorney Michael Trucks says he plans a response to the order.
Meanwhile, bingo operations continue to work to reopen the cutoff.
