Council approves funds for Alaska trip

BIRMINGHAM (WBRC) - Birmingham city councilors approved a resolution Tuesday allocating no more than $56,000 to send 28 neighborhood leaders to a conference in Alaska.

The trip is for the annual NUSA, Neighborhood USA Conference, so neighborhood leaders can learn valuable lessons on how to improve their communities.

The trip has been a hot button issue since it was originally recommended by Mayor William Bell at a cost of nearly $400,000 for 169 people to make the trip.
