Warner Brothers begins movie rentals through Facebook

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – Warner Brothers may be on the verge of turning the world's largest social network into the world's largest video rental store.

In a press release, Warner Brothers announced it will begin testing movie rentals through social networking site Facebook. Fans would just have to use Facebook Credits to purchase or rent a movie while still staying connected to Facebook.

Currently, the only rentable movie available is Batman flick "The Dark Knight." Fans who ‘liked' the film on Facebook can hit the ‘rent' icon on the movie's official Facebook page to view the film. The cost is 30 Facebook Credits or $3.

Warner Brothers plans to release additional titles over the coming months.

"Facebook has become a daily destination for hundreds of millions of people," said Thomas Gewecke, President of Warner Bros. Digital Distribution. "Making our films available through Facebook is a natural extension of our digital distribution efforts. It gives consumers a simple, convenient way to access and enjoy our films through the world's largest social network."
