ETOWAH COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - Etowah County authorities busted up a cockfight that had attracted a crowd of approximately 60 people, said Sheriff Todd Entrekin. Although the fight had not yet begun when deputies arrived, two people were arrested at the fight's location on Clanton Street just outside Attalla city limits.
"When they pulled up, it ended up being a large chicken fight going on, which…actually hadn't even gotten chickens started fighting yet. They were all gathering and getting their chickens unloaded and ready when the deputies interrupted," Entrekin stated.
The deputies were called to the location due to a noise complaint. They arrested and charged the property owner with cockfighting. A second person was charged with obstructing government operations when he told plains clothes police officers to leave because a raid was occurring.
Each member of the crowd that had gathered was checked for outstanding warrants and allowed to leave with their roosters since a fight had not yet taken place.
