CALHOUN COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - Calhoun County authorities say they're investigating a domestic violence related shooting in a rural area.

Deputies were called out around 3 a.m. Friday March 4 to an address on Old Choccolocco Road.  Chief Deputy Matthew Wade says a man returned home and beat on the door repeatedly for his wife to let him in. Wade says the man's wife shot him through the door of the home, hitting him in the leg.

Sheriff Larry Amerson says the woman failed to get medical help for the man and he lost a lot of blood. He was airlifted to a Birmingham hospital.

The woman is charged with domestic violence and was held in the Calhoun County Jail.  Amerson says it's standard procedure to hold any domestic violence suspect for 12 hours.

The names of the suspect and victim were not immediately available.
