ATF agent discovers live mortar round in Gadsden store

GADSDEN, AL (WBRC) - Gadsden Police confirm their bomb squad was called out to a sporting goods store, to recovered what appeared to be a live military mortar round.

Police spokesperson Capt. Regina May tells Fox6 News an ATF agent found the mortar around 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Sportsman Exchange on Walnut Street in Gadsden.  She says the ATF was conducting what appeared to be a routine inspection.

May says the bomb squad secured the round and the ATF will follow up with an investigation Friday.  There were no injuries or damage and no explosions, but traffic was tied up in that part of town for a short time.
