Motorcycle crash sends four to hospitals

BESSEMER, AL (WBRC) - BESSEMER, AL (WBRC) - Four people were taken to area hospitals after a motorcycle crashed when fleeing a sheriff's deputy.

It happened around 4:30pm Wednesday at the intersection of Powder Plant Road and Old Tuscaloosa Highway.

Chief Deputy Randy Christian says a deputy was checking the VIN on a motorcycle when the rider fled. The biker entered oncoming traffic to pass when it collided with a vehicle that was making a left turn. The impact threw the bike off-road and deposited the biker in a ditch.

The others involved in the wreck are two 20-year-old men and an 18-month-old toddler. The toddler was in a child safety seat. Those three were taken to UAB West by ambulance.

The male biker who is approximately 40-years old, was air-lifted to UAB Hospital.

Preliminary investigation reveals the bike as stolen. Bessemer Police continue the investigation.
