Birmingham Police investigate hit-and-run on student

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – Birmingham Police are looking for a woman they said hit a 14-year-old Whatley K-8 student with her car before taking off.

Just before school started Tuesday, the woman who allegedly had children in the car with her, struck the boy at the intersection of 43rd Street and Messer Airport Highway. The driver fled the scene, despite one witness banging their fists against the car window.

The boy was taken to Children's Hospital and released, and even returned to school a few hours later.

"It is hit and run, regardless of whether you hit another person or a car, you should stop and report that accident," Sgt. Johnny Williams with the Birmingham Police said. "We're still trying to find that driver to find out what was going on, why they leave the scene, and hold them accountable for they did."

Police are now looking for the driver of a brown, 4-door Honda Accord driven and hope a witness will be able to come forward with a license plate number, or the driver of the car.
