Schools show the love to bus drivers

PELHAM, AL (WBRC) - Thousands of students thanked their favorite bus drivers today, showing their appreciation by making them Valentine's Day cards. The students drew pictures of their top memories from riding the bus and their artwork was displayed at Alabama's first Love the Bus luncheon in Pelham.

Dozens of bus drivers were honored for their safe driving and love of students, and two drivers were given the honor of "Driver of the Year": Nina Cordell of Dale County and Greg Young from Winston County.

"I was just blown away. I just do my job, that's all," Cordell said.

Young was also shocked by the award.

"Well, I had no idea that this is what I was coming for. My superintendent said it had something to do with buses, so I came. I had no idea," he said.

The American School Bus Council founded the Love the Bus event in 2007 in order to show appreciation for the hundreds of thousands of drivers who take children to and from school safely each day. For more info, check out www.lovethebus.com.
