Habitat for Humanity seeks Shelby County applicants

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. (WBRC) - Habitat for Humanity is offering Shelby County residents the chance to become homeowners by hosting a homeowner application workshop Thursday in Inverness. Anyone in need of affordable housing, with a low to moderate income and the willingness to put in 300 hours of hard work is eligible for a zero percent interest home.

"You don't have to have kids. It can be a single homeowner. It can be an older [person]. A lot of times people think you have to be a parent with a couple kids, but it's just the need and qualifying for the program," said Beth Jerome with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Birmingham.

The homeowner application workshop will be held in the Banksouth offices on Highway 280 at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10. Space is limited and preregistration is required to attend the free workshop.

You can sign up at www.habitatbirmingham.org or call (205) 780-1234 for more information. Online registration and qualification guidelines are available under the "Apply For A Home" tab on the website.
