BIRMINGHAM (WBRC) - Birmingham Mayor William Bell will travel to Washington Wednesday to try and acquire funds from the federal government.
Along with dozens of other mayors from around the country, Bell will meet with top White House executives regarding projects and stimulus funds.
Bell said he and mayors from Atlanta and New Orleans have one common theme: a high speed rail system.
"It's been a dream for a long time to connect those three cities with cities in between in some form or fashion in a high speed network and that's what we're looking for," Bell said.
The mayor said with a new congress, it's important to go to D.C. to find out how federal dollars will be allocated and if stimulus funds will come through.
