BIRMINGHAM (WBRC) - The National Transportation Safety Board has released the preliminary report detailing the crash that killed 59-year-old Gene Scott of Helena on January 5 near the Birmingham airport.
The report says Scott decided to land in Birmingham, instead of at the Shelby County Airport because of weather concerns.
After being cleared for landing, the report says Scott proceeded to the left of course. The tower controller then gave more instruction for landing to guide the pilot but the report says Scott failed to turn the plane and climb to the assigned altitude.
