BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - By Wes Wyatt
BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A winter storm watch is now in place for the entire FOX6 coverage area for Sunday afternoon through Monday morning. New data suggests the precipitation type of snow for a good portion of our area Sunday night.
Snow totals of 4 to 8 inches will be possible over northern sections of our area and there may even be some higher totals in isolated locations. The snow totals should be highest in the area with the greatest moisture concentration and cold air profile conducive to snow, which should be near or just south of the Highway 278 corridor.
Nearer to the I-20 corridor, we're expecting accumulations to top the 3-inch mark in many spots.
We're still concerned about a period of sleet or freezing rain. This type of precipitation will be possible along and south of the I-20 corridor.
The possibility for snow accumulations will also exist for areas south of I-20. So be prepared for possible travel issues Sunday night through Monday morning and stay tuned to FOX6 News for the latest developments.
