Jeffco Commission ponders giving more to Clastran

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) – The Jefferson County Commission may be giving more money to transportation service Clastran.

On Tuesday, Jefferson County Commissioner Sandra Little Brown called for a summit over Clastran funding.

Clastran is a service that provides transportation for the elderly and disabled. Recently, the service has found itself needing more funds to make it through the fiscal year. Jefferson County has pledged $300,000 to Clastran and Birmingham gives $120,000. Clastran officials say they still need $120,000. Clastran Executive Director Fenn Church says that currently they can operate through the end of March without cutting routes.

Recently, Birmingham city leaders announced surplus money that might be given as well.
