BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Gardendale police are reporting an increase in residential burglaries happening during the daytime while more people are at work. On their Facebook page, they say TVs are the main target but there is no specific area of concentration. In the past two weeks, more than 25 burglaries, thefts, and car break-ins have been reported in the area. Gardendale police say the burglaries are happening county-wide and that more than one group could be behind them.

The department is encouraging residents to record the serial numbers of televisions and other electronic devices so that if you experience a break-in and theft, any recovered stolen property can be returned to the right owners. Other tips include keeping expensive belongings like bicycles and lawnmowers out of sight.

Gardendale police say they do have persons of interest in the thefts but are still searching out leads. If you notice any suspicious person or activity, call the Gardendale Police Department at 631-8787.
