A special honor for Jefferson County Voter Registrar Nell Hunter

BIRMINGHAM (WBRC) - After overseeing county elections for 48 years, Nell Hunter retired in November and was recognized Tuesday by the Jefferson County Commission with a resolution paying tribute to her years of service.

Hunter is credited with computerizing voter rolls, the first in the state to use this system.

The former registrar says she is looking forward now to not waking up at 5 o'clock every morning and going to work.

Barry Stephenson has been appointed interim registrar.
