Suspects run car into ravine during chase

Clay, AL (WBRC) – Three men are in the custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department Wednesday after they attempted to break into a woman's home and then led deputies on a chase through the Clay Chalkville community.

Renardo Holloman, 29, Tracy Gates, 22, and Javion Brown, 21, approached a woman's home, and after realizing that someone was home, panicked and said they were there to rake her leaves.

The men left and the woman flagged down a sheriff's deputy that was in the area. The deputy issued a warning to his colleagues, one of whom spotted the suspects in a car that had been stolen from the Homewood area.

After a short chase, the car struck a chain link fence, went across the street and into a steep ravine on Old Springville Road. The men abandoned the vehicle; however, two were caught not far from the car. The third was caught by authorities shortly after.

A search of the vehicle revealed what police believe are stolen electronics, frozen food and a 9 mm pistol.
