Gunman in custody after stand off in Rainbow City

RAINBOW CITY, AL (WBRC) - Rainbow City Police responded to a 911 call around 6:26pm this evening on a report of shots fired from the area of Fitness Pluss on Rainbow Drive. When Police arrived on the scene they found 58 year old Donald Thrasher of Attalla in possession of a high powered rifle and hand gun. Thrasher was allegedly standing in the middle of Rainbow Drive, firing random shots in the area. He was taken into custody around 8:00pm and transported to a local hopital for evaluation. "I am very proud of the way our officers handled this incident," states Rainbow City Police Chief Ragan. "They should be commended for their excellence work. All the responding agencies worked together in a way that brought this incident to a peaceful end." Chief Ragan adds, "We would like to thank Lieutenant Chris Yancy with the Attalla Police Department for his help tonight. He was instrumental in the apprehension of the suspect." There were no injuries reported during the incident.
