BIRMINGHAM,AL (WBRC) - With only a week before Christmas, last minute shoppers filled area malls and stores looking for bargains. At the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover, shoppers young and old were on a quest to find that perfect gift.
"It's crazy," said Mark Halloran, "There are so many people out here. I always wait until the last minute, but I shouldn't because it is so crowded."
Some shoppers said it is a Christmas tradition to wait until the last minute to check off their lists. They said the best holiday sales are closest to Christmas, and the discounts are bigger.
"I think everybody has good deals," said Jeromy Shaw, "There are a lot of good sales going on here."
Others carried shopping bags with the final items on their lists, and said they're relieved to be done with fighting the crowds.
"I try and get it out of the way so i'm not in the last minute hustle and bustle," said Dana Adams, "but that is hard to do."
Store managers hope the holiday rush continues and sales stay strong. The National Retail Federation is projecting holiday sales will be up about 3%over last year.
