ALTOONA, AL (WBRC) – The Etowah County Sheriff's Department says they have arrested two men in connection to a rash of burglaries in the eastern part of Etowah County.
38-year-old Steven Ray Pannell is facing three counts of third degree burglary, one count of breaking and entering a vehicle, three counts of second degree theft of property and two counts of third degree theft of property. Pannell's accomplice, 26-year-old Stephen Matthew Laughlin is facing one count of third degree burglary and one count of second degree theft of property.
The break-ins that Pannell and Laughlin are accused of occurred from mid-September to the end of November in Altoona, Walnut Grove and Boaz.
Some items have been recovered. A search of a Guntersville residence yielded several stolen guns to investigators. More items were also found in a wooded area in the Snead community.
Deputies say attempts to apprehend Pannell led to several car chases. He was finally apprehended early in the morning of December 7th by U.S. Marshals.
Laughlin was taken into custody on December 10th after he ran from his Snead residence and led officers on a short car chase.
Both suspects are being held in the Etowah County Detention Center.
The Etowah County Sheriff's Department says Pannell will be facing additional charges.
