JEFFERSON COUNTY (WBRC) - A Jefferson County judge has set bond for Gabe Watson at $100,000 at a hearing Tuesday.
Under the conditions of his bond, Watson must also wear an electronic monitoring bracelet and must in his house between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Watson also may not leave the state of Alabama.
Watson is charged in the 2003 death of his wife, Tina, during a scuba diving trip on their honeymoon in Australia. Watson served 18 months in jail in Australia after pleading to lesser charges in her death. He was indicted here in Alabama and extradited.
Last week after Watson was returned to Alabama, his attorneys stated their client wasn't going to leave the state.
"Understand that Gabe's been away from home for a year and a half now," said Joe Basgier, one of Watson's lawyers. "He's really excited to be back with his family and friends. This is not a place he wanted to run away from, he desperately wanted to come back."
Watson's attorneys say the charge that Watson plotted his wife drowning while he was still in Jefferson County is, "ludicrous."
