Hearing delayed for e-bingo defendants

MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) - A federal court hearing requesting a delay of the bingo corruption trial of Alabama lawmakers and lobbyists has been rescheduled.  A hearing is now set for Tuesday before U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson.

Nine of the eleven defendants requested to move their trial from April 4th to Sept. 9th.  2011.   Attorneys say they cannot examine all of the hundreds of thousands of documents, 2,700 telephone calls and more than 50 hours of recorded conversations by the April deadline.

The hearing was set for Monday, but Ron Wise, the attorney for Talladega Senator Jim Preuitt, requested a one day delay because his son is graduating from Auburn on Monday.   Thompson granted the request.
