BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A little hope and help for survivors of domestic violence is on the way during the holidays. Verizon Wireless and the Birmingham Police Department have joined forces for a new initiative.
A big part of the initiative is the Hopeline Phone Drive. It encourages people to donate cell phones and accessories that are no longer being used.
"The phones can be refurbished and given to survivors," said Monica Pate with Verizon Wireless. "Verizon also sells the parts and the money goes to grants for domestic violence awareness."
Verizon also offers customers a direct line to help through their phones. Customers can call #hope (#46730 and reach the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
