Friends remember victim of domestic violence

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - By Sherea Harris

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - There were heavy hearts and a lot of tears when people gathered to remember their murdered friend, Sherry Young Johnson.

Johnson was stabbed to death at her home Friday. Her husband, Anthony Johnson, stands accused. He turned himself in to authorities and confessed to killing her.

Friends and family gathered for a candlelight vigil Tuesday night. The vigil was held outside of the hair salon Johnson owned.

Tuesday is Sherry's Johnson birthday. It was to be her 40th. Instead of birthday wishes, her friends and family are grieving.

A tearful Gwendolyn Jones says she's been a client of Johnson's for 18 years.
She's still not able to accept what happened to someone she calls a great person.

Jones says, "She was just more than a hairstylist, she was friend."
"She was a loving person. If you had a problem, you didn't even have money for your hair she'd say come on in let's get your hair done," said Jones.

Dana Jones said, "When she'd do my hair she would talk about certain issues that were going on but I didn't know it was that serious. I really can't believe this is all true still."

People will gather once more this weekend for a final goodbye.

Johnson's funeral is at 11am Saturday at Peace Baptist Church in Pratt City.
