BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Once again the city of Birmingham is opening its doors to those without a warm place to stay.
Temperatures are expected to drop into the low 20's from much of the week and Birmingham is opening Boutwell Auditorium as a warming station. The warming station will open Monday night at 6 o'clock until 7 the next morning. This will continue until Thursday night.
The city did open the facility last year during another cold wave.
"The past involvement of the public has been good. We hate we have so many in need. They have responded by coming to the Boutwell and other public facilities to stay warm during periods of cold," Mayor William Bell said on the matter.
The city will also provide cots and light snacks for those who come to the Boutwell Auditorium.
