BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Birmingham will not go after the SEC Baseball Tournament as long as Hoover is competing for it. Birmingham Mayor William Bell says he has committed to Hoover Mayor Tony Petelos to work to keep the tournament in Hoover.
The baseball contract is up after next year's season. Birmingham has an agreement for the Barons to move to the city from Regions Park.
Bell says no one should be surprised the two largest cities in Jefferson County are working together. "Many people assume because we have an issue on one particular area, that impacts all areas, but it does not. I look forward Mayor Petelos to bring as many events to this region as possible," said Bell said.
